The Steady State Economy Conference: Working Towards an Alternative to Economic Growth - 19th June 2010 Leeds
The conference is being organised by Economic Justice for All (EJfA) and the Center for the Advancement of the Steady State Economy (CASSE)
The organisers think this is the first UK National Conference to explore and develop the idea of a "steady state economy", and the policies to achieve this.
Key presentations include
- Peter Victor, Professor in Environmental Studies, York University, Toronto, Canada, on "Managing without growth - Slower by Design not Disaster";
- Andrew Simms, Policy Director of the New Economics Foundation, on "The Great Transition";
- Tim Jackson, Professor of Sustainable Development, University of Surrey (by video) on "Prosperity Without Growth - Economics for a Finite Planet"
and
- Dan O'Neill, European Director, Center for the Advancement of the Steady State Economy on "What is a Steady State Economy and Why Do We Need It? "
In addition, key issues will be addressed in ten workshops - topics are set out in the attached conference flyer. Among those who have agreed to lead workshops are
